After MBBS, doctors in India have a choice to take up private-sector jobs or government-sector jobs. Government jobs often offer job security, fixed hours of work, pension benefits and opportunities to serve rural and urban communities. These positions are generally obtained through competitive examinations and recruitment processes. But private hospitals generally provide better pay packages, good medical facilities and faster career growth opportunities for skilled professionals.
But in the private sector the workload and shift length can be even more taxing sometimes. Doctors often begin their careers in government service to gain experience before moving on to private practice or hospitals. It depends on what you want to do, your financial expectations, work-life balance and your desire to give back to public healthcare services.
